The Soviet-made Tu-154 plane, with more than 90 people on board, including Kaczynski and his wife, crashed while attempting to land at an airport in Smolensk under foggy conditions.

The president was to attend a memorial ceremony for Polish officers killed by the Soviet secret police in 1940.

“Relatives of those who perished in the disaster near Smolensk will arrive in Moscow Saturday and Sunday at Sheremetevo airport,” an official told RIA Novosti.

The first plane carrying the relatives touched down at 8.05 p.m.
