An unofficial delegation on a visit to India had stated Thursday that Modi was persona non-grata in the European Union countries and Germany also supported the denial of a visa to the chief minister for his alleged role in the 2002 ethnic conflict in Gujarat.

An official spokesperson of the state government said that such e remarks against an elected chief minister of a state needs to be taken up very seriously by the central government for it is tantamount to insulting the people of Gujarat.

The German embassy had earlier Saturday made it plain that it was in unofficial delegation and the government of the country did not necessarily share their views.
