Islamabad : The South African cricket team Friday was consulting authorities back home on whether or not to continue the Pakistan tour after Thursday night’s suicide bombing in Karachi.
“There was a paramount concern at all times about the safety and security of the team and that is our prime consideration,” the team media manager Owen Smith told Pakistan’s Dawn news channel.
“We will be having discussions with the officials in South African Cricket Board and Pakistani Cricket Board later in the day on whether to proceed with the tour,” he added.
Scores of people were killed and hundreds wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up after throwing a grenade Thursday midnight as Pakistan’s ex-premier Benazir Bhutto was leading a rally in Karachi after her eight years’ exile abroad.
South Africa is due to play a one-day international in the city on October 29. Two more of five-matche series will be played in Faisalabad on October 23 and Multan October 26.
It has already won the first one-day international played in Lahore Thursday.
