“The victim’s family will be given Rs.2 lakh as compensation while a member of the family will be offered a job,” Home Secretary Bausudeb Banerjee said at the state secretariat here.

He said notification for a magisterial inquiry into the incident in Nadia district would be issued in a day or two. He said the sequence of the events that led to the incident would be revealed only after the inquiry was completed.

“The inquiry will look into all aspects — whether there was a conspiracy behind the incident and how a police officer was left all alone and when did the reinforcements reach the spot,” Banerjee said.

The inquiry will also look into how the video footage of the police firing was obtained, he said.

A man was killed and nine people were injured in Tehatta, around 150 km from here, Wednesday following a mob-police clash over a land dispute.

Five people have been arrested in this connection and prohibitory orders have been clamped in the area.
