Algerian Oil Minister Chakib Khelil, acting president of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (0PEC), made the announcement at the Conference of African Energy Ministers.

Khelil noted that energy is at the heart of Africa’s economic development and the continent reports the largest oil production growth in history in spite of being the world’s lowest fuel consumer, being rich in resources it barely uses.

So he called AFREC to use the experience of counterparts like the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE).

He finally called the African colleagues to attend the 2nd Conference of African and Latin American Energy Ministers (AFROLAC), on April 3 in Cancun, Mexico.
