Gaza City : At least 10 Palestinians were killed and 45 injured during heavy fighting with Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip Wednesday, hospital officials said.
The heaviest fighting occurred on the eastern outskirts of Gaza City, where local militants confronted Israeli ground troops backed by helicopters.
At least three people were killed in tank shelling in the eastern Gaza City Sheja'eya neighbourhood, shortly after three Hamas militants were killed when a tank shell hit another house.
Witnesses said a missile fired from a helicopter gunship also killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander and 12-year-old bystander there.
Two more militants were killed in fighting outside the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis.
