Deoband: former president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) Maulana Arshad Madani has resigned from the post of Nazim-e-Taleemat (secretary of education) of Darul Uloom Deoband.
His resignation follows the decision of the Executive Council of Darul Uloom on 15th June, asking the top office bearers of JUH, who also hold positions at the seminary, to choose either of the two.
Maulana Arshad Madani has reportedly welcomed this decision of the executive council of the seminary, saying that saving Darul Uloom Deoband’s prestige is essential in any case.
However, he will continue as professor of Hadith at Darul Uloom. At the same time, the members of the seminary’s executive council resigned yesterday from the executive committee of JUH.
The revolutionary decision taken by the executive council of Darul Uloom Deoband has sent a wave of rejoice among both the elites and masses. Everyone here reiterates that this decision was inevitable for recovering the seminary’s prestige.
Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri, deputy rector of Darul Uloom and president of JUH has not resigned from either post. Darul Uloom had also asked him to choose one of the two posts. Calling the decision as historical one and based on far sightedness, Mufti of Muzaffarnagar Zulfiqar Ali Qasimi welcomed it and said the members of the Majlis-e-Amilah have saved Darul Uloom from further damage.
He further pointed out that for the Mohtamim of Darul Uloom, it is necessary to be aloof of all such things and if the Mohtamim would have stuck to his previous policy of non-alignment, May 31 incident would not have happened at the campus.
