Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh government has been asked by the Ulema Council to take action against those who had framed a question on Azamgarh district’s alleged link with terrorism for the provincial civil services preliminary examination.
“In the general studies ‘C’ series paper, question number 126 asked examinees ‘Which district of undivided Uttar Pradesh is being maligned as a breeding ground of terrorists’. The question reflects the dirty mindset of those who framed it,” Maulana Amir Rashadi Madni, convener of the Ulema Council, told IANS.
The examination was conducted Sunday by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).
“We have written to the chief minister, chief secretary and governor to take stern action against those responsible for framing the question,” said Madni.
According to UPPSC officials, the examination was held to fill the Other Backward Castes (OBC) quota.
When contacted, UPPSC chairman S.R. Lakha refused to comment on the matter.
In the past few months, a number of Azamgarh residents have been arrested for their alleged role in terror attacks in various parts of the country.
Two youths, Atif and Sajid, who were killed in a shootout with police at Batla House in New Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area in September 2008 hailed from Sanjarpur village of Azamgarh. The arrested man, Saif, also belonged to the same village.
