Ashok Chavan front runner for Maharashtra chief minister

By IANS, Mumbai : Maharashtra Industries Minister Ashok Chavan emerged as front runner for chief minister as the Congress party central observers Pranab Mukherjee and A.K. Antony finalised their shortlist after interviewing party legislators here Thursday night. However, the final choice has been left to party chief Sonia Gandhi. Both the central ministers finished the interviews at the Vidhan Bhavan and have communicated their decision to Gandhi, who is in New Delhi. Her choice will be formally announced by the two senior ministers here, the sources said.

By IANS Patna : The Bihar government has withdrawn the security cover of opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad. The withdrawal of the security cover forced the central minister to drive in a private vehicle to the official residence of his wife Rabri Devi, Leader of Opposition in the assembly, when he arrived here Friday night. Official sources said the security was withdrawn after Inspector General (Security) R.K. Singh issued an order.
