Haryana Congress feud bared post-presidential poll

Chandigarh : The undercurrents of a major feud within the ruling Congress in Haryana has been bared after the presidential election despite United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Pratibha Patil getting more votes than the party's strength in the state assembly.
The shadow boxing by Congress politicians against one another - mainly the bigger faction led by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the other of his bete noire Bhajan Lal and his MP son Kuldip Bishnoi - has now come out in the open.

New Delhi : DMK leader Kanimozhi, the poet-daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, took oath as Rajya Sabha member Thursday at a small ceremony in Parliament House attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, indicative of the clout the regional party has in the ruling alliance.
Another DMK member Tiruchi N. Siva and Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja also took oath in Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan's chamber.
Manmohan Singh presented a shawl to Kanimozhi after she took the oath.

Lucknow/New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said here Friday that she was yet to make up her mind on supporting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate for the vice presidential election.
"UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi did propose a name for vice-president, but we have not been able to take any decision in that regard so far," the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief told a press conference in Lucknow Friday evening after visiting New Delhi earlier in the day.

Bhopal : The Congress in Madhya Pradesh Friday demanded a judicial probe into the violence that killed five people in Indore city during the shutdown called over the Amarnath shrine land row.
Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Suresh Pachouri accused the police of being hand-in-glove with the protesters during the shutdown called Thursday by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to protest the Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to cancel allotment of forest land to the Amarnath shrine.
