Shrawasti (UP): a simple case of elopement by two lovers belonging to two different religious communities turned into a heinous crime committed against members of Muslim community.
A Muslim boy and a Hindu girl eloped on 7th of July in Shrwasti district of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was filed for the alleged kidnapping of the girl. Three days later hundreds from girl's village attacked Muslim dominated village of Sirsia that the boy belonged to. Brother
of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) minister is reported to be leading that mob.
The mob beat all Muslims, burnt a number of houses of that village. The most heinous is that several Muslim women were sexually assaulted and a few of them paraded naked.
Police deny any such incident have happened and in fact refuse to lodge an FIR. Medical examination of these women could be taken only after 48 hours severely limiting the hope of finding any evidence of rape after such a long time.
Reporters have seen marks of attack and assault on the bodies of women.
Legislators of Samajwadi Party (SP) walked out of the state assembly over this incident and involvement of a BSP minister. Waqar Shah of SP raised this issue in the Assembly and dubbed the Mayawati government of UP as "anti-Muslim."
Meanwhile BSP government has announced the suspension of police officers of Shrawasti districts. Lalji Verma, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs denied involved of any BSP minister in the incident. An inquiry has been ordered.

Zakir Naik and Hindutva Hindus
Zakir Naik has never expressed any hatred of Hindus. He does not incite Muslims against Hindus.
The Quran says that scriptures were sent to people of all lands. When asked whether the Vedas could be regarded as scriptures, Naik said they were; but he felt many additions and interploations had been made to them.
Zakir Naik has only explained his religion, and if he has found some favourable points in your scriptures, why should he become a hate figure for you ?
He has never insulted Hindus, all he says is 'this is my religion'. Yet, you see it is an insult - it is proof of your sense of inferiority.
The bottom line is Islam is growing even today, even in the west. There is no conquest. So the conclusion must be that it has an inherent strength. Of course, that will cause anguish to you
Actually, I am not that much of a fan of Dr. Zakir Naik. His speaking style is too hectoring for me. But I do not dismiss him, as I think he has something unique which is a knowledge of all the scriptures in the world. Due to this, he can engage in live debates with leaders of other religions. I have not seen this from people of other faiths.
Naik's writing is better than his speaking. I saw a very good comparison written by him on the views of all the various religions versus the atheists. He seemed to have respect for people who have some religion as opposed to none.
I think there are finer scholars than him who speak on Islam. The best I have heard is the African American Bilal Philips. The best scholars of Islam are actually non-Arab. I believe India has produced the best Islamic scholars. We have our own Maulana Azad ,Maulana Maududi and Allama Iqbal. Actually, all the religions are present in the Indian milieu, so it gives a wide perspective.
Personally, I am more interested in discussing politics than religion. I do agree that religious leaders should keep their skills in their territory, especially in a multi religous country.
But that is not what we see in India. If the religious leaders make some outlandish comment, they will be ignored. But when politicians join them, then that leads to uncontrollable situations. The prime example is when Advani joined hands with VHP fellows and used religious emotions to build a political platform for himself.
The problem of religious leaders trying to guide the political leaders is not new. Emperor Akbar founded some of the orthodox ulema (Islamic scholars) led by Sheikh Sirhindi troublesome. They interfered constantly and made it difficult to rule.
He told them that he would consult them but he warned them if they came with competing views, he would ignore them. But as usual, each man of religion competed with the other, so he ignored them.
Then they started denouncing him as an unbeliever. So he got fed up and decided to deport 30 of the most troublesome mullahs to Afghanistan. That is why Akbar was a strong leader.

Dr. Naik has debated with scholars of other religions, including Ravi Shankar and an American evangelist, and a Christian missionary in India. The audience might be mostly Muslim, but the people he is debating with are leaders in there respective religions. He generally takes their pants off - I wish he would not do this in public, as it is humiliating for the opposition. In the case of the Hindus, it increases the inferiority complex.
There is nobody in the Hindu community who knows Hindu and Muslim scriptures well enough to debate with Dr. Naik. In the Hindu community there may be people with uncouth language like your's but obviously he is no going to waste his time with riff raff. He is going to debate with established figures in other religions.
I do not know what Dr. Zakir Naik has got to do with this. He does not denigrate Hindus.
As far as I know he is an Islamic scholar and he debates on religion with people of all religions as well as atheists. Other people agree to enter into debate with him, and he trounces them.
He has an encylopedic knowledge as he can quote Quran, he can cite Bible or Hindu texts with the verse numbers, all in a flash. There is no one in the world who knows all the texts of all the religions, by heart.
Few years ago, there was a debate between him and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The latter came out in a poor light. Dr. Naik did not denigrate Hindus, it is just that Shankar could not defend the Hindu texts that Naik cited.

You have expressed reservations against Naik in a irrational way. I am against Chatrapathi Shivaji's rage against Naik, for it seems irrational and seems to be based on the feeling that he has insulted him.
I do not think Naik has said anything anti-Hindu as such. He explains Islam as he understands it. Let Hindus explain their religion.

Muslims worship the Creator, not the created. In this we are clear. Hindus say God is in the monkey and the cow, and the stone, so we worship it. I am not objecting to this. I am saying 'Don't make out it is equivalent to Muslims'. It is not the same. There is a world of difference.

In reply to your comments on repression of majority on minority population, I like to say some thing about my experience in Bangladesh. I am a minority in Bangladesh. All my anchetors used to live there and my family still living under the repression of muslims.
Severeal time in last 14 yeras I experienced severe assult on minorities(Hindus and Buddists) from pilitical terrorista and administrations(police and court).My family is still fighting to save lands from a muslim terrorist ,who attempted to grab the land with false document. Lot of hindu family is still being treated as enemy of state even though they and their anchestors worked as state servent.
During those incidents lots of minorities were killed for no reasons, girls, wives raped in front of family members.No justice were done in favor of the victims.Even the Ahamodia communities being tortured and killed by majority people in Bangladesh.
So what I like to mention , minorities are always the target of discrimination everywhere in the world, whether muslims or hind or shik.
You will not find any answer of this .As a hindu I am also bearing the same prolonged pain as you are bearing as muslim.
