Pakistan’s national assembly, the lower house of parliament, will stand dissolved from Thursday midnight after completion of its five-year term, bringing to an end the over three-year-old Aziz government.

During a farewell meeting with the outgoing prime minister at the presidential palace, Musharraf said he was personally thankful to Aziz and his cabinet over their support and cooperation, according to Online news agency.

Aziz was elected prime minister by the parliament on Aug 27, 2004.

For the first time in the country’s sixty years history, parliament was completing its tenure and it is a moment of pride for all Pakistanis, Musharraf said, adding that every government should have the chance to complete its term.

He hoped that maintenance of democratic institutions would continue in future.

Aziz urged the people to give another chance to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and its allied parties on the basis of their performance in the last five years.
