Most of the tourists who recently visited the pyramids, which were built in the pre-Columbian Americas, opposed the government plan in a signature campaign, saying the beauty of the pyramids is in its natural form.

The majesty of the pyramids and the rest of the place is itself beautiful and it is not necessary to carry out the light and sound project titled “Resplandor”, said the tourists while putting their signature against the government plan.

The signature campaign has been launched by trade unionists and the National Institute of History and Anthropology (INAH).

The tourists have also referred to the ways other countries take care of their monuments, and preserve them for the coming generations. For them, the maltreatment of the pyramids is a lack of respect towards the Mexican people’s ancestors, the INAH said.

According to INAH, parts of the original rocks of the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon located in the archaeological zone has been drilled, accelerating penetration of humidity inside the pyramids.

Lazaro Salvador Moreno, a leader the INAH National Workers Trade Union, said they would continue the signature campaign and upon completion, the signatures would be sent to President Felipe Calderon with a request for scrapping the project.
