“India must take a more active role in promoting peace and religious harmony in the new world, which are heavily interdependent,” he said at the inaugural session of the India Today Conclave.

He felt that many countries, “whether they are Muslim or Christian or otherwise, are not comfortable with the concept of secularism”, which made it imperative on India to promote human values.”

The exiled Tibetan leader said the Indian media has to play an important role in this.

The Dalai Lama added that he felt “great honour” that India was his “spiritual home” for the last five decades.

He said he was a messenger of India and would take Indian values across the globe. “You are the guru and we are the chela (disciples),” he said.

The Dalai Lama noted that there was no scope for violence or force in finding solution for any issue. He stressed the need for dialogue in addressing the dissatisfaction of different sections of the society.
