Liberhan conclusions bold, recommendations mousy: Milli Council

New Delhi: The All India Milli Council has termed as bold the conclusions of the Liberhan Commission that probed the demolition of Babri Masjid but its recommendations as mousy as “they bear no resemblance to the forthright conclusions preceding them.”

The Liberhan Report has confirmed that the demolition of the Babri Masjid, far from being ‘spontaneous’, as BJP has claimed, was systematically planned and tailor-made. It was the intended outcome of a climate of communal intolerance deliberately created by the Sangh Parivar and its sister affiliates, including the BJP. A whole range of Sangh parivar organizations under the hegemony of the RSS as well as the Shiv Sena were involved.
“The Liberhan Report includes conclusions and recommendations. The conclusions are undoubtedly tale-telling, unequivocal and bold. It terms the demolition part of a well thought-out plan and a “joint common enterprise”. But the recommendations emerging out of its daring excavations are mousy. They bear no resemblance to the forthright conclusions preceding them. After indicting the 68 individuals for bringing the country to the brink of communal disaster, it does not call for filing of charges against them nor does it speak of expedited criminal proceedings,” said Milli Council General Secretary Dr Manzoor Alam.

He has criticized the commission for giving a clean chit to Narasimha Rao government and the present UPA Government for the hurriedly prepared Action Taken Report on the Liberhan Commission report.

“A serious shortcoming of the Liberhan Report is its silence on the role of the Narasimha Rao Government which did nothing to stop the efforts to razing the historic Babri Masjid to ground,” Dr Alam said.
“As is obvious, a 13-page Memorandum of action taken on the 1029-page Liberhan Report has been released. The memorandum, however, seems to be apparently a hurriedly prepared document and the real action is yet to come. The ATR displays lack of political will to bring those responsible to justice. The nation wants to know what action the Central Government is going to take. In the past too, those indicted by different commissions for communal riots have gone scot-free as in the case of Sri Krishna Commission Report.”

Milli Council has also urged the Election Commission of India to initiate action against the Hindutva political organizations, including BJP and Shiv Sena.
