Muslim cleric to take Kumbh dip to wash away religious differences
By IANS,
Lucknow : A dip in the sacred river during the Maha Kumbh Mela is said to wash away all sins. A senior Muslim cleric who will perform the Hindu rite hopes it will also wash away differences between the two religions.
Kalbe Sadiq, a noted Shia cleric and senior vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), will take the "holy dip" in the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar in 2010.
"For the sake of cementing the bond between Hindus and Muslims, I have decided to perform the ritual (holy dip) in the Ganga river, which is considered sacred and revered, particularly by Hindus," Sadiq told IANS.
"In fact, not only the holy dip, I am ready to perform every such act that will help promote amicable atmosphere between the two communities and contribute towards the progress of the nation," he added.
Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, will be held in 2010 in the holy city Haridwar in Uttarakhand, from Jan 14 to April 28, and is expected to see an influx of 15 million pilgrims -- many of whom will come from distant lands.
"Though I have not planned the exact date for carrying out the holy ritual, very soon I will make it (date) public," Sadiq said.
The Muslim cleric has also intimated his plans to the seers in Haridwar.
"I have informed them so that they can assist me in performing the holy ritual smoothly. For this purpose, I have already held talks with Yogi Yateendra Nath Giri, who is the national convener of the Akhil Bhartiya Sadhu Parishad," he said.
Asked about important issues that cropped up in his talks with the seer, Sadiq said: "Primarily, it remained focussed on chalking out a plan to further cement the bond between Hindus and Muslims."
The controversial issue of Babri Masjid/Ram Mandir too cropped up during the discussion.
"Yes, we discussed it and both of us agreed that the matter should be left to the court and members of both the communities should respect the court's order," he added.
Maha Kumbh Mela occurs four times every 12 years and rotates among four locations: Allahabad (in Uttar Pradesh) at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati river; Haridwar (in Uttarakhand) along the Ganga, Ujjain (in Madhya Pradesh) along the Kshipra river and Nashik (Maharashtra) along the Godavari river.

Kalb e Sadiq
I understand Kalbe Sadiq skip the dip in kumbh, for what ever reason.
Now if Kalb e Sadiq is coming forward for the Court ruling against Babri Masjid.
My beleive, he will seal his lips on this important issue, although he is "Muslim Cleric", "Senior vice president" and so on and so forth.
Maulana Kalbe Sadiq & Gangaji
This is a great gesture on the part of Maulana Kalbe Sadiq. He is not only learned in fiqah but also well versed in worldly knowledge, and is a Ph.D. and my contemporary in Aligarh. I remember visiting Delhi from Aligarh, alongwith Maulana and the Secy of the Ali Society, looking for "Chief Guests" for the Annual Ali Day functions, when I was a student in Aligarh.
The Maulana can surely take a dip in Gangaji, but more important is to try and cleanse the Gangaji! Rajiv Gandhi had started a Ganga Action Plan, which I believe has since floundered. Maulana should initiate action in that direction. We need tons of Water Treatment Plants, across the cities through which Ganga passes, where half burnt dead bodies from the Shamshan Ghats are just consigned to the river as poor people cannot afford the wood to burn the bodies completely. Then I have seen pictures of dead animals & other miscellaneous flora & fauna floating in the Gangaji, side by side these dead human bodies.
Also, tons of Industrial effluent passes into these rivers, which I am sure is toxic, perhaps with arsenic and other chemicals harmful for human life & the fish, which needs to be pre-treated and stuff recycled- Water preservation & recycling strategies are required for our big cities so that drinking water is available in some of the remote & draught prone villages.
I would suggest Maulana should be better off initiating awareness in that direction.
Just a suggestion!
With Kind Regards

I support Kalb e sadiq in
I support Kalb e sadiq in his great step and very happy that somebody is doing it at last. We should have come up with this Idea very early!! Just go ahead and do Bismillah.
Kalbe only dip in water or...
This Kalbe Sadiq is only dipping in water or he is ready to convert. Then it is better example. But Kalbe can't be a brahmin by conversion. He will be a shudra or an untouchable.
Kalb e Sadiq
Dear All
SA
I know kalb e Sadiq since he was doing Phd from AMU in Islamic history, no doubt he belongs to a very learned family.
But I tell you he is an opportunist. and try to make money and name, what ever means available.
His first project to educate muslims (shias), he collected millions of US$, from USA itself, in the name of unity schools, yes there are unity schools, but not for poors, only rich can afford that school. Then he started Medical college, from the money contributed by muslims especially shias so the medical college could produce muslim doctors, the donation for medical college is IRS 12 + lakhs, You guys could imagine, who is availing the facilities of that medical college.
He made more then enough fortune out of those projects.
Then his next project was shia sunni unity, last eid he went to Eidgah Aishbagh to pray with sunni brothers, and he thinks, that offering one pray, completed the unity between shia and sunni sect.
Now his next project is the "Unity between Hindu and Muslims". He forgot that his own son already worked for hindu muslim unity, when he (his son) married to a prominent hindu buisnessman's (Khun Khun Ji)grand daughter. (The marriage ended in a divorce) so yes the unity nead a revival.
Kalb e Sadiq, should know the difference between "Unity" and "compromise".
There is a fine line which divide unity to compromise. If a call of unity raise from majority to embrace, the minority, its known as unity, but if it is vise versa, then it is "Compromise" may be due to fear, or any other reason.
Kalb e Sadiq should know, neither Imam Husain, nor any shia imam or our prophet compromises with Kuffar e Makka, not any Yazid of any time in history.
If he wants to join his fellow citizen Hindus in his individual identity, Nobody ever had a problem, but pleasenot in the name of all muslims.
"I AM WAITING TO SEE HIS NAKED PICTURE WITH ALL OTHER HINDU SADHUS".
Onemore thing, he better to fixed his family problems first, At the last term of Ms. Mayawati kalb e Sadiq gifted RS1 crore to bahin je, because, kalb e Sadiq's son and driver were taken by police in a case of rape and murder.
I pray to Almighty for Kalb e Sadiq, and request him to do whatever he wants to do to gain name and be in NEWS in national newpaper, on his individual form, not as a selfmade leader of shia muslim, alteast think about your great grandfather, Ghufraan Maab, learned father Maulana Kalb e Husain, learned well known late Maulan Kalb e Abid, professor, Dean of Theology of AMU.
Wa Sallam

Shame on you Syed Rizvi for
Shame on you Syed Rizvi for talking about respected Dr Kalbe-Sadiq in such a derogatory and slanderous manner. Who gives you the right to comment upon his personal life and form your own twisted and unfounded judgments? You obviously have a personal agenda of your own hence your bitter tongue. I suggest you strongly think about your allegiance to our beloved Ahlul Bayt and think deeply about the disgraceful manner in which you have written about another Muslim brother. Did the Ahlul Bayt ever communicate in such a manner, even when they were wronged by zaalims? You obviously do not know Maulana Kalbe Sadiq saab, but I do, and for your kind information with regards to the supposed 'holy dip' I can tell you that it was a complete fabrication by the press. And by now you will know that the Hindu event has passed without the presence of Maulana Kalbe Sadiq who had no intention of doing any such thing. With regards to his pursuit of money and fame I would like to say that any person who runs after money does so to benefit from it on a personal level and hence has something to show for it - so please show me Maulana Kalbe Sadiq's luxurious home, expensive clothing, private jet and top of the range cars. The truth is he is a very simple man, often misunderstood because of his non-confrontational nature who is on a mission to carry out duties prescribed by our beloved Ahlul Bayt to make a difference to society. If you have achieved even 1% of what Dr Kalbe Sadiq saab has done during his lifetime, then maybe you can take some pride in yourself, otherwise I leave you with a quote by our beloved Imam Ali (a.s):
Backbiting: the Last Resort of the Weak
Imam Ali (AS) has said,
الغيبة جهد العاجز
Translation:
Backbiting is the last resort of a powerless person.[1]
Explanation:
Backbiting means speaking about others behind them, saying bad things about them and finding faults with them. This is one of the ugliest and most disliked defects and various people in society are afflicted by it.
One who backbites is undoubtedly a powerless and cowardice person. The fact that he sits and talks about people behind their backs shows that he does not have the courage to face them and say what he has to say in front of them. Because he does not sense the courage and strength to face them, his last resort is to talk about them behind their backs. In this manner he takes his revenge from them and cools his heart by it.
If a true believing Muslim has an objection or criticism of another, on the basis of courage and Islamic character he must state it before that person and enjoin him towards good and discourage him from evil without any fear.
And if his objection and criticism is incorrect and it is only based on jealousy and narrow-mindedness, then he must never backbite that person who is better than him. By doing this he will ruin himself before society and lose people’s trust.

Can you tell me the name of
Can you tell me the name of medical college which he runs!!!
No more Moulana
This is nothing but Shirk. This mad man does not realize what he is doing, if he did he wouldn't have even dared think about it. He teaches unity to the muslims in the mosque and here he is dipping in some 'holy water,' trying to wash away differences, indeed he will be successful as there will be no difference between him and those Hindu Sadhus. Did any one ask him whether he'll come naked out of the river or will he dip with his clothes on, or will he sit in a corner wall of some temple and start smoking charas and ganja. By doing this show-off act he is bringing the curse of Allah on him. It is people like these who are danger to Muslims in this country. Any sane Muslim will realise the flasehood and hycorisy behind this act. Wake up Man. I don't think this man should be referred with the term Moulana anymore.
Maulana Kalbe Sadiq is a
Maulana Kalbe Sadiq is a senior vice-president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and a great Islamic scholar. When he says that he will take the holy dip in the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela to be held in 2010 to strengthen the relations between Hindus and Muslims, it should be appreciated. He is the Islamic scholar and belongs to an organisation (AIMPLB) which is the representative body of the Indian Muslims.
There is no doubt at all that the Maulana is a revolutionary leader who is endeavouring his best to change the mindset of the Indian Muslims and impart higher education to them. He is also a founder of some educational institutions.
Every religious leader - Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh and any other religionist- should have the interest of the people and country at heart and do their best to make India more and more a pleasant place to live in.
Let the tribe of the Maulana increase.

Kalbe can't change anything
If kalbe sadiq is dipping, it is his personal matter. Islam as nothing to do with it. There is no such a ritual in Islam. If Kalbe has any such belief it is not related to Islam and entirely personal. We are not at all ready to follow a wrong leader.
kumbh mela
Kumbh mela is the dirtiest and worst evil place to visit. All sorts of crimes are commited during these mela.
Forget about washing sins you will be contaminated with many more sins.
dont visit
Tolerance is mandatory on Muslims.
Tolerance is mandatory on Muslims. But some people do not know the difference between tolerance and intermixing.
Like the people of Makkah said "O Muhammad (SAW), woship our Gods for a day and we will worship your One God for a day". The response of a muslim should be. "My brother, no thank you. Understand your point of view, but to you is your religion and to me is mine".
One does not have to do things against their religion just to prove that one is at peace with the others.
I do not have anything against my Hindu brother. I respect their beleifs and sentiments. However, the concept of God portrayed through the Kumbh celebration goes against the Chapter of Al-Ikhlas in Al-Quran. Chapter 112.
History of Kumbh Mela.
History
Kurma Avatar of Vishnu, below Mount Mandara, with Vasuki wrapped around it, during Samudra manthan, the churning of the ocean of milk. ca 1870 painting.
The observance of Kumbh Mela dates back many centuries in Ancient India, to the Vedic period, where the river festivals first started getting organised. In Hindu mythology, its origin is found the one of the popular creation myths and the Hindu theories on evolution, the Samudra manthan episode (Churning of the ocean of milk), which finds mention in the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana [13].
The Gods had lost their strength, and to regain it, they thought of churning the Ksheera Sagara (primordial ocean of milk) for amrit (the nectar of immortality), this required them to make a temporary agreement with their arch enemies, the demons or Asuras to work together, with a promise of sharing the nectar equally thereafter [14]. However, when the Kumbha (urn) containing the amrita appeared, a fight ensued. For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for the pot of amrita. It is believed that during the battle, the celestial bird, Garuda the vehicle of Vishnu flew away with the Kumbha of elixir, and that is when drops of amrita fell at four places on earth: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, and that is where the Kumbh Mela is observed every twelve years [15].
First written evidence of the Kumbha Mela can be found in the accounts of Chinese traveller, Huan Tsang or Xuanzang (602 - 664 A.D.) who visited India in 629 -645 CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana [16][17][18] According to The Imperial Gazetteer of India, an outbreak of cholera occurred at the 1892 Mela at Haridwar, which lead to the rapid improvement of arrangement by the authorities and the formation of Haridwar Improvement Society, and in 1903 about 400,000 people attended the fair [11]. During the 1954 Kumbh Mela stampede at Allahabad, around 500 people were killed, and scores were injured. Ten million people gathered at Haridwar for the Kumbh on April 14, 1998 [16].
The 1998 Kumbh Mela saw over 10 million pilgrims visiting Hardwar, to take a dip in the holy river, Ganga [19]. Around 1 million people from outside of India and from around the world participated in the 'Maha Kumbh Mela' at Prayag (Allahabad) in 2001, with planetary positions that repeat only once in 144 years [20]. The total gathering exceeded 60 millions. See the references given in the article 1954 Kumbh Mela Stampede. Kumbh Mela at Haridwar, 1850s
Kumbh Mela is attended by millions of people on a single day. The major event of the festival is a ritual bath at the banks of the rivers in each town. Other activities include religious discussions, devotional singing, mass feeding of holy men and women and the poor, and religious assemblies where doctrines are debated and standardized.
Kumbh Mela (especially the Maha Kumbh Mela) is the most sacred of all the pilgrimages. Thousands of holy men and women (monks, saints and sadhus) attend, and the auspiciousness of the festival is in part attributable to this. The sadhus are seen clad in saffron sheets with plenty of ashes and powder dabbed on their skin per the requirements of ancient traditions. Some called nanga sanyasis may often be seen without any clothes even in severe winter, generally considered to live an extreme lifestyle.
