Marad Clashes: Five acquitted

Kochi: Five persons accused in the case of setting a house ablaze during the Marad clashes of 2002 have been acquitted by the Special Additional District Sessions Court (Marad Cases). The judgement was passed by the special judge KP Prasannakumari.

All the acquitted – Thekkethodi Preju, Thekkethodi Pradeepan, Kelappandakathu Shanmughan, Choichendakathu Kishore and Thekkethodi Shaji – are activists of the ‘Samajam’. Preju was a former secretary of the ‘Samajam’.

The incident leading to the case reportedly took place on January 3, 2002, during the communal clashes in the coastal village of Marad in Kozhikode district. The acquitted were accused to have set fire to the house of Thekkepurathu Subaida.
