Hyderabad: As world observed the 10th December as International Human rights Day, Hyderabad based Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee of India (CLMC) demanded the world to maintain the respect of human dignity and values at all levels and paid homage to all the human rights activists who sacrificed their lives for the protection of human rights.
“Human rights defenders speak out against abuse and violations including discrimination, exclusion, oppression and violence. They advocate justice and seek to protect the victims of human rights violations. They demand accountability for perpetrators and transparency in government action. In doing so, they often put their own safety and that of their families at risk” said Lateef Md Khan, General Secretary of CLMCI.
Expressing his deep concern over the atrocities on minorities in the country he demanded legislation to check the injustice with them: “We strongly feel that in India minorities are not safe. A systematic attempt is going on to eliminate them and they are facing discrimination at every level. Only because of questioning and asking for their rights they are being labeled as terrorists. Police is implicating them in false terror cases and spoiling the lives of Muslim youth with impunity. Therefore, we demand to introduce an act to end /check the atrocities on minorities” he added.
He also criticized the unjust behavior of Andhra Pradesh government towards the people who are raising voices for separate Telangana state.
“The imposition of section 144 in Hyderabad is serious violation of human rights and right to freedom of expression. They are not in a position even to express their voice for their democratic rights. We will continue our struggle in spite of all kinds of repression, oppression and discrimination by the state and non-state agencies” he said.
Besides, he demanded the withdrawal of Army from Kashmir Valley to provide the people with normal life. He also expressed his displeasure at ‘Operation Green Hunt’ in West Bengal and termed it as war hysteria of Indian ruling class.
Condemning America and Israel for degrading of human rights at international level he said: “We condemn American imperialism which is the greatest threat to the humanity on this globe. We believe that the American imperialism is the root cause of human rights violation that is spreading all over the world. We condemn the Israeli Zionism that has violated all the rules and norms of human values and occupied the Palestine, committed the crime against humanity by blocking the Gaza strip” he added.
