Imphal: Following the footstep of West Bengal Government that recently decided to give 10% quota to Muslims, Manipur Government is also considering Muslims reservation. About two weeks before the 7th session of the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the Cabinet was to discuss various issues, most important among them the quota for Muslims. Other issues include upgradation of Jessami High School to Higher Secondary level. The coming assembly session likely to begin on March 8 will be the budget session.

The state Congress government led by Chief Minister, O Ibobi is considering reservation of seats for Muslims in government appointments and technical studies.

The development is seen as a success for the nationwide campaign for implementation of Ranganath Mishra Commission Report which has recommended reservation to Muslims. The Popular Front of India is running two-month long nationwide campaign on Muslim reservation. PFI has held a rally on the issue in Bishnupur district.
