A noble initiative for educational uplift of Muslims in Bihar

Patna: Daughters of poor Muslim fathers, these students of Class VIII to X now have a dream in their eyes. Picked up from local families whose sole breadwinners are either mason, auto driver or watch mechanics or other menial workers, these girls are being coached free so that they do not drop from high school classes due to financial constraints. A big salute to Bihar Anjuman for the initiative.

This coaching center in Phulwarisharif area of Bihar’s capital where girls are being coached along with boys is part of a major initiative of Anjuman to coach school students to minimize drop-out and raise percentage of minority students in colleges and universities. Their ultimate goal is to increase the numbers of minority students from Bihar and Jharkhand in technical courses and raise the employment levels for Muslims.
Apart from regular free coaching these students are offered monthly awards for good academic performance and attendance to hold their interest and to promote a healthy competition among the peers.

The Anjuman has by June 2010 established seven such coaching centres (Patna, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Aurangabad, Chakardharpur, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur). On July 11, they started their 8th centre in Jamshedpur and on coming August 1, the 9th will be started in Arwal district. Their plan is to establish one centre in each district of Bihar and Jharkhand. They are also planning to cover students of Class V to VII on one hand and Class XI and XII on the other.At each centre about 100 students are being coached by the Anjuman.

The initiative has started to yield result. In the Bihar Board examination (for Class X) 10 students (5 boys, 5 girls) from the coaching appeared and all 10 cleared it with first division. “In a big further step the Anjuman coached four of them for civil engineering course. Result is 100%. All four have qualified for admission in Civil Engineering at Maulana Azad National Urdu University,” informs Enam Khan, the Convenor of Bihar Chapter of Anjuman. The four have secured high ranks at national level: 69, 112, 135 and 224. “It is a marvelous achievement,” says Khan. Indeed it is.
Not only education, the Anjuman is working on various other fronts with the sole aim to uplift the Muslim community.
Since 2000 the Anjuman has been offering donations to Imarat Sharia for marriage of poor girls and for higher technical education of students from the weaker sections of the society. Besides, in 2008, they provided Imarat about Rs 40 lakh for flood affected people. The Anjuman also spent huge sum on the affected people of Kashmir and Gujarat earthquakes.
Anjuman is also running Rahbar Job Information Centre at ITI institute of Imarat Sharia in Patna. The centre serves as a connecting point between the employers in India and abroad and the pass-outs of the Imarat’s ITI institute and other unemployed youth of Bihar and Jharkhand.
The Anjuman, a network of individuals and organizations, is running all these activities under the banner of Rahbar, a registered national NGO in India.

Giving a background of Bihar Anjuman, Syed Anwar Bari, Founder Member of the Anjuman says: “We started it in Dubai in 1995. We felt all Biharis in Dubai should sit together and a hold a meeting to sort out any problem if anyone of us is facing. We also wanted to touch the issues of education and unemployment of our brothers in Bihar. So we started with offering scholarships to meritorious but poor students here in Bihar. Then we planned to start coaching centre in each district of Bihar and Jharkhand. We have opened 12 and planning to open 10 each year.”
The Anjuman has intensified effort for educational uplift of the Muslim community particularly after the disclosure of Sachar Committee Report, says Bari in an interview to TwoCircles.net.

Why not BIhar as a whole!!!!!!

I really appreciate the effort of all those who are involved in this charity and good work. However, I always had one curious question which bothers me. why this great deed of charity is limited to muslims...why not entire Bihar irrespective of all religions..
As the name only suggests "Bihar Anjuman" and NOT "Bihar muslim Anjuman". Ideally this organization should cater to an overall problem of Bihar and make every Bihari proud.
I am not denying the great and hard work done by some of the active members but I would rather request them take a broader objective and work towards Bihar as a whole.
PS: When I say Bihar, I mean Bihar and Jharkand both.

Assalamu Alaikum Atif,
It's simple. They don't have enough money to work towards Bihar as a whole. This is a community based trust and it was funded by only few local persons. The money they have will be insufficient for whole Bihar. So "Jithnee Chaadar Uthnaa payr pehlaana". To work towards Bihar as a whole is something that Bihar government has to do.

Indeed a timely and great job.if anybody wants to do KARE KHAIR this is the first and best work to do at this time.As the backwardness of muslims in education is exposed, the first duty and priority of every muslim to go for education and education and education only.ALLAH, mr. Bari ke karo baar men traqqi de. ameen.

Christians no better
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has said : The ink stained fingers of a scholar are much more holier than the blood of a martyr. He(SAW) has also said : For the acquisition of education even if you may have to China,do not hesitate.". This is how the Prophet(SAW) felt about education. Yes, lack of education leads to exploitation.That is why our politicians want people to remain uneducated. Muslims should go to schools, college and the universities in a big way.
In the field of education Christians too are at their lowest. In thousands of schools that the Christians missionaries run hardly 20 percent of the Christian students are on rolls.Christians have the highest drop out rate as well. We ha on record of a Catholic Nun who was reported having said to a Catholic girl in Jammu : What have you to do with education you have finally to end with being a Safi Karamvhari." We should, both Muslims and Christians cooperate with the government in a big way and educate our boys and girls to contribute our might in nation building.
