Wanted some ‘Islam’ in CWG ceremonies: Group of Ministers

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Group of Ministers (GoM) was not amused when it found out that there was no reference at all of “Islamic influence on Indian history,” in both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games (CWG). So it has directed the organizers of the Games to provide a “true” representation of India’s inclusive culture by weaving this in, as per reported by Indian Express.

According to the GoM, which has Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Tourism Minister Kumari Selja and Minister of State (Finance) Namo Narain Meena, Islam has been a major influence on Indian history and civilization and it should be displayed at a global platform like CWG.

The GoM came to this conclusion at its recent meeting, after they had a preliminary viewing of the ceremonies. The opening and closing ceremonies of the CWG, on which the government is spending about Rs 300 crore, have been designed by international consultants under the guidance of filmmaker Shyam Benegal, lyricist Prasoon Joshi and Javed Akhtar.

CWG

The guidance team though constitutes progressive people, it failed to understand the composite culture of India.Indirectly they are playing into the hands of communal forces.
Thanks to Indian Express for bringing out this lacunae in understanding of the progressive minds.

I would be grateful if that Indian Express Report is hosted on your site.

Jameel
