Islam, Christianity alien, so cannot get quota: BJP

By IANS,

New Delhi : "Islam and Christianity are alien" to India and, therefore, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) feels people from the minority groups, even if their socio-economic condition is low, should not be given the privilege of quota in jobs, legislative bodies and education, a party official said Friday.

At a press conference here, BJP's newly-appointed spokesperson Ramnath Kovind called for scrapping of the Ranganath Misra commission report that recommends 15 percent quota in government jobs for socially and economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities in India.

The National Commission on Religious and Linguistic Minorities, headed by Justice Ranganath Misra, former chief justice of India, has in its report also recommended inclusion of Muslim and Christian converts as Scheduled Castes and given a quota to that category.

"No, that is not possible," said Kovind. "Including Muslims and Christians in the Scheduled Castes category will be unconstitutional."

Asked how Sikh Dalits were enjoying the quota privilege in the same category, Kovind said: "Islam and Christianity are alien to the nation."

He said that "it is very well known" that convert Dalit Christians and Muslims get better education in convent schools.

"The educational level of Scheduled Caste children remains much lower than that of convert Dalits and Muslims. The children of converts will grab major share of reservation in government jobs. They would become eligible to contest elections on seats reserved for Scheduled Castes. This would encourage conversion and fatally destroy the fabric of Indian society," he said.

"The Misra commission report should be scrapped because (its recommendations) will jeopardise the interests of Scheduled Castes," he said.

The Misra panel report, which was tabled in parliament Dec 18, 2009, has defined religious and linguistic minorities as backward classes and recommended 15 percent reservation for all minorities in jobs, education and welfare schemes.

Of India's 1.2 billion population, Muslims form the largest minority at close to 14 percent, followed by Christians at 2.3 percent, Sikhs at 1.9 percent, Buddhists at 0.8 percent, Jains at 0.4 percent and others including Parsis at 0.6 percent.

"Within the recommended 15 percent earmarked seats in institutions shall be 10 percent for the Muslims and the remaining 5 percent for the other minorities," the report had suggested.

The recommendations have triggered a row with Hindu parties severely opposing it. The government itself is doubtful about the implementation of the recommendations.

However, the Supreme Court in a ruling Thursday gave legitimacy to minority reservation by allowing four percent quota in jobs for backward Muslims in Andhra Pradesh. This could give a push to the Congress to go ahead with implementing the Ranganath Misra report recommendations.

I hate BJP and RSS

This -----firstly demolished Babri Masjid on 6th dec. Still we are celebrating as BLACK DAY. And now they are saying that Muslims and Christians are aliens.

Islam is the also the oldest religion. They are pulling us backward. They even doesnot want to reserve the education.

Brahmins and upper caste hindus are alien

Indians Muslims or Christians are not alien. they are living in india since 1000 and 1000 years. Only they converted to Islam or christian when they relised that hindu mythology is a hoax. they are not migrated from any other part of the world.
While upper caste hindus or brahmin or aryans were migrated from germany. they introduce the sign of 'swastika' to india, which is a nazi symbol. they all are belongs to hitler family. because of this RSS never said anything wrong about hitler but instead they are praising hitler in their schools.

Hindu is also alien

The word Hindu is a contribution of people in Persia and the Brahmins invaded India from central Asia.So everything is alien as far as Brahmana Janatha Party is concerned. The word Hindu must be debated to expose the ugly face of Brahmanical religion.

supporters of BJP are also alien to India

some one must tell upper cast baniya party that they are equally alien to India

Adivasis and Dravidians are original ihabitant of India

BJP is not the arbiter of India's destinY!

How could the BJP say that Islam and Christianity are "alien" to India, when Muslims have been living in the country for more than 1,00o years! And Christians for nearly 500 years!
"indian civilization is distinguished from other civilization of the world in respect of its continuity and hetrogenity, its accommodating ethos and its composite character!"Further, weat is characteristic of any civilizationis NOT its "being",butits "becoming!"By virtue ofits characteristic "pluaralism"and "its continuously evolving synthesis', India represents the "Nation in the Making", a nation which is continuously unfolding its potentialities!"
All those who subscribed to that notion all these years only have sustained it and those who raised the bogey of "exclusivism" , since the last score of years only have distorted the image. the voters have thrown them out and now the people have to drive them out!

Get a life/u religious fanatics/Justbox

Get a life man..You all are always talking about this religion and that religion. Love India or get out.

By the way, get your history right too. Christians in India date back to almost 2000 years with St Thomas landing in kerala coast of Cranganore (modern Kodungallor - same place where Muslims landed in AD 650, and Jews landed slightly before) in AD 32, almost at the time of Jesus Christ. Many chucrch buldings are 2000 years old and renovated.

Christians live harminiouisly with Hindus, participating in their social and religious functions, sharing the customs and "dress codes', accepting "Indian" names (such as Sunil, Anil, Sindhu etc not necesssarily Hindu names, have taken Hindu names too); while maintaining their religion and practices. Muslimms on the contrary, continue to be different, their mosque services are in Arabic (while Christian services are in MAlayalam); they dont wear saris (they used to until Wahabis took over!, they dont celebrate Onam etc.. getting alienated every day

Unless Muslims become Indians, they will always be marginalized.

Reply to Gopi Thomas

Mr.Gopi Thomas, I understand what you mean. You ask Muslims to discard Islamic identity, otherwise get out of India or get ready to face the wrath of fascists. You Christians cheat other faiths(Pagans) adopting their cultural symbols and names to increase the number of sheeps in your house. We Muslims do not have that fate and we will profess our religion without any pretension. As of Christian religion, it is also as fake as Hindu religion since both are vague without any supportive holy sripts. No prophets(eg;-Abraham,Moses, David,Ishac,Noah etc) preached a religion called Christianity even Jesus as well.Instead they preached only the religion of God Almighty.Just think about the destiny of the aforementioned Prophets as they had never been Christians or Baptised as you do.Imposing your faith and culture on others is Fascism/Extremism, which is a crime as per Indian constitution. Please learn to respect others.

BJP Appointments

BJP's newly-appointed spokesperson Ramnath Kovind has pronounced, "Islam and Christianity are alien to the nation." If a spokesman for a major political party makes such silly and exclusivist assertions, it should be a matter of concern for all Indians. These are the kind of people that the new BJP president Nitin Gadkari has picked for his new team. He has picked Varun Gandhi, the Muslim bashing firebrand, to be one of the new secretaries of the party!
