Four-lane road is essential in Kinalur: State Industries Development Corporation

Kozhikode: The four-lane road connecting Kinalur with Kozhikode is very essential to attract big investments in the area, opined the Kerala State Industries Development Corporation. However the width of the proposed road has not been decided yet. The stretch of land needed and alignment will be decided only after the survey, said the Executive Director of the KSIDC in a press release. The statement also accused that those who said that the road was 100 metres wide were against industrial development.

The press release says that the decision for constructing the road was taken one and half years ago when a deal was signed with a Malaysian company as it required a good wide road. But the company withdrew from the project due to financial crisis (whereas the Industries Minster has reportedly said earlier that the company withdrew from the project as there was no good road). Then the government decided to establish a footwear park in 70 acres and food processing park in 50 acres of land. The Rasalqaima government authorities have reportedly expressed interest to establish a Medical City in the remaining land and a team from UAE would visit the state on May 17.

The state Human Rights Commission stated that it had found no evidence of any human rights violation in Kinalur in the primary investigation. Commission member KE Gangadharan maintained that the people were concerned about the fate of the farmland and other land, but the government should take measures to relieve them.

There are also reports that the Chief Minister has ordered the Police Special Branch to collect details of tall those who have bought land in Kinalur since 2007. The police are reportedly ordered to make use of the Registrar Ofiice in Balusseri for the matter. The Registration Minister S Sharma also has reportedly asked the Sub-Registrar Office in Balusseri to provide details of all land deals in Kinalur.

Meanwhile, the approach of the state Women’s Commission has invited strong criticism from different corners. The Girls Islamic Organisation demanded the Commission president Js Sreedevi to apologize for her justification of the police brutality on women and children in Kinalur. The organization accused that the Commission was taking up the responsibility of protecting the land mafia. The state committee of the National Women’s Front demanded a dismissal of the Women’s Commission president from her post. Js Sreedevi is trying to justify the attack when all people have seen the police brutality through the media. The organization added that the Commission needed not wait for any complaint but could register case suo moto. The Chief Minster should dismiss Js Sreedevi from her post, demanded Shobha Surendran, state president of the Mahila Morcha. Js Sreedevi has insulted the women and children subject to police brutality with her words. People rose in protest in Kinalur without any religious, caste or political considerations. The Minister himself should prove if he had accused the problems in the place on religious terrorists. She also demanded a judicial inquiry in to the incident.

In another development, Muslim Youth League president KM Shaji demanded that an inquiry should be made into the visit of CPI (M) general secretary Pinarayi VIjayan to Kinalur a few days before the clash. Whether binamis of Pinarayi and Industries Minister Kareem have bought land in the place should also come under the purview of the inquiry, he added. Shaji accused that Pinarayi had visited the place on March 20. Congress leader VM Sudheeran has demanded for a detailed and complete judicial inquiry into tall the matters related to the Kinalur issue. The police brutality on the people in Kinalur is an insult to the democratic culture, he reportedly said in the letter addressed to the state Chief Minister.
