Gopalganj: In the Phase III poll today, Gopalganj district registered 52% polling with no violence reported from any booth. People came out and without any fear cast their vote. Among known faces contesting here was Sadhu Yadav on Congress ticket from Gopalganj seat.
In all six assembly constituencies the fight was clear and direct between RJD-LJP alliance and JDU-BJP alliance. Local issues and issues of development overshadowed caste factors, it is learnt.
There were four Muslim candidates from major parties or alliances. In Barauli, Moh Nematullah of RJD and Asif Gafoor of Congress were contesting while in Gopalganj Riyazul Haque alias Raju was the lone big Muslim candidate (RJD). In Hathua, Congress had fielded Babudin Khan.
