Briefing newsmen, ADM and Secretary, HAT, OP Pathak stated that Ghar Wali Karbala is Karbala Malika Afaq which was constructed under the supervision of Malika Afaq Sahiba who was the wife of third ruler of Awadh Mohammad Ali Shah during 1837-1842. One portion of the monument has an Imambara while the other has a Roza-e-Samra. The custody of the monument was passed to son in law of the King’s wife Nawab Sir Mohsinuddaula Bahadur and thereafter in the hands of Mirza Ali Qadar.

Bahadur was followed by Begum Almaroof Wazir Begum who was the daughter of Nawab Sir Mohsinuddaula Bahadur. However, she handed it over to HAT on 29 January 1921.

The Karbala was taken over by anti social elements and was in dilapidated state. Later, HAT took the initiative and constructed a boundary wall and two gates. The Imambara building, however, still is in ruins and will be restored by HAT. The project is expected to take one year for completion.
