Touching the sensitive issue, Akhilesh remarked: “The demand for a judicial probe in the Batla House encounter is justified. When everyone is demanding a judicial probe, government should concede the demand. Why is the government shying away as if there is something to hide,” said Akhilesh.

Since the incident of Batla House encounter in September 2008, SP had demanded judicial probe in the incident. Two days ago, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi was in Azamgarh and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has termed the Batla House encounter as fake. However, the
statement was disowned by Congress and UPA government.

Azamgarh remains sensitive due to the Batla House incident which occurred on 19th September 2008 in a dense Batla House locality in New Delhi. Security agencies have rounded up several youths on charges of terrorism. An outfit Rashtriya Ulema Council (RUC) led by Maulana Amir Rashadi was also born in wake of these incidents and is also contesting the assembly elections.
