“I request the prime minister to trace my son and an Indian citizen, who was taken into custody by the Indian intelligence officials in Saudi Arabia,” said Mehmood’s mother, Amra Jamal, principal of a government school in Bihar’s Darbhanga district.

She told IANS here that she had full faith in the Supreme Court before which a plea was filed by her family on the issue.

The school principal said that she would formally request the prime minister to help her know the whereabouts of her son.

She questioned Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s remarks that Mehmood was not in the custody of Indian authorities. “It is an irresponsible statement on his part,” she said.

The apex court earlier this month issued notice to the home and external affairs ministries over the disappearance of Mehmood.

The 35-year-old engineer, who hails from a village in Darbhanga district, was reportedly arrested in Saudi Arabia May 14 for alleged terror links in India.
