New Delhi: Young Nikhat Perween looks tired. In search of her husband she has knocked at every relevant door from Saudi Arab to New Delhi since 13th May 2012 when her husband Fasih Mehmood was picked in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arab. But in response she has got just one liner: We don’t know him, we have no information about the arrest.

Talking to TCN on Friday at her relative’s home in Delhi, 23-year-old management graduate Nikhat, who married 28-year-old engineer Fasih just 8 months back, gave details about how Fasih was picked 12 days back and how frantically she has looked for him in these days.

How Fasih was arrested on 13th May in Saudi
Soon after Zohar (13th May afternoon) two Saudi policemen, two Indians (possibly officers from Indian Embassy) and a woman in burqa came to our home. They locked me in room and searched the entire house. They found nothing. They took my husband, his two mobiles and laptop and went away. My husband asked about charges and why he is being arrested. They said they had no information. It is a matter between the two countries. Govt has asked us to deport him (Fasih) to India where there are some charges against him. When asked about the charges, they said they don’t know. As I was alone, my husband called in a relative, the officers did not allow him to tell the relative anything about the happening. The relative came, and my husband asked me to go India with the relative.

Running from pillar to post, but no information yet
I stayed in Saudia for two days, and in those two days I phoned the Indian Embassy there, visited the office enquiring about my husband. My distrant relatives also called to the Embassy but they refused to give some information. They said they don’t know about Faish and have no knowledge about the arrest. They promised to call me back, but they didn’t.

Nikhat Perween at her home in New Delhi

After returning to India I contacted every authority to know about my husband. I phoned them, I emailed them and even faxed them but got no response. I contacted External Affairs ministry, Home Secretary, Home Ministry, the Chief Minister of Bihar and various police departments like Karnataka Police, Andhra Police, Delhi Police and Bihar Police. I also contacted NIA and CBI. All denied having any knowledge.

Police, NIA say Fasih is not wanted
Karnataka Police, Delhi Police and Andhra Police said they are not looking for a person of this name, they have no charges against such persons. Bihar Police have no charges against him, there is no charge against him in Saudia, not a single charge against him anywhere. Then tell me why has my husband been arrested? Where is my husband? If he has been kidnapped, then too Govt should reply. If he has been kidnapped in Saudia, then Saudi embassy and Indian embassy should tell me where is my husband?

Where is my husband? 23-year-old young bride looking for news about her husband on Internet at her home in New Delhi, on 25th May 2012

Where is my husband? Our Govt. should find out
When all are saying there are no charges against him and they are not looking for such person, then tell me where is my husband. I am unable to understand what kind of confidential matter it is that they are denying to give information. Twelve days have passed and still I have not been informed where my husband is and in what condition he is and what are the charges against him. I don’t even know whether he is in India or not.
They are mentally torturing my husband. I don’t know if they are physically torturing him or not, but surely they are mentally torturing him. This is an illegal arrest.

If our government really does not know about his arrest, then too they should find out my husband. He is missing from a foreign country. Our government should ask the Saudi government about my husband.
