Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh, Corps Commander of 15 Corps, told reporters that Pakistan’s desperation following the killings of top terrorists had forced them to infiltrate terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.

Syed Qasim Shah, who was sneaking into India as commander of the Lashkar-e-Taeba (LeT) terrorist group, was among those eliminated by the army, the officer said.

The army has been conducting pro-active operations both on the Line of Contro (LoC), which divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan, and the hinterland in the valley.

Intelligence reports earlier suggested that terrorist groups had detailed trained guerrillas across the LoC, to push them into the Kashmir Valley before the mountain passes get closed this winter.
