Malappuram: The Aligarh Muslim University off campus at Malappuram will get the pending funds transferred at least by the end of January, said the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Shashi Tharoor. Only 20 crore rupees have been transferred to the developmental activities of the off-campus until now out of the total 140 crore rupees allocated.

“On inquiry it was found that the delay was the result of some red tape issues,” he said. The official explanation was that the second phase of fund transfer got delayed because the expenditure report of earlier fund transfer was not submitted, he noted. So the issue could only be solved on consent from the union financial ministry, Tharoor added.

We have discussed this issue with the Union Financial minister and the expenditure finance committee is expected to hold a meeting this week itself, he informed.

“I have discussed the issue with the Kerala Chief Minister and Educational Minister, while I met them at Kasargod last week. I went on discuss the matter with the officials at Delhi after visiting and having a proper understanding of the problems faced by the off campus at Perinthalmanna, and have asked the officials at Delhi to clear all barriers to prevent further delays in the file transfer,” he noted.

Tharoor expressed his optimism that the fund will get transferred to the off-campus at least by the end of January.
