Human Chain felicitates Padma Shri Akhtarul Wasey

New Delhi: Human Chain, a Delhi based non-government organisation felicitated Padma Shree Prof. Akhtarul Wasey this Sunday, April 13, 2014 after being appointed as the Commissioner of Linguistic Minorities of India. Prof. Wasey was warmheartedly welcomed by Mohammad Aslam, President Human Chain and his team comprised of General Secretary Dr. Khalid Mubashshir and Treasurer Mohd Mujahid Akhtar and other namely Master Naseem Haider, Mudassir Nazar, Dilshad Alam, Najeeb Sagar and Monis Kazmi.

Addressing Prof. Wasey, Mohammad Aslam, President of Human Chain shared the grim condition of Surjapuri language, a language spoken by the people residing in Seemanchal region of Bihar. Mr. Aslam said that Surjapuri language is a very rich language, but it doesn’t get recognition among the regional languages of India. The government of Bihar has provided some percentage of reservation to Surjapuri speaking people in government institutions and jobs, however it yet to get reservation at Centre. Mr. Aslam wished the attention of Prof. Wasey towards Surjapuri language for benefitting around 30 lakh people residing in Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Araria and Uttar Dinajpur districts.

Padma Shree Wasey understood the dismal condition of Surjapuri speaking people in words of Mr. Aslam. In his address, Padma Shree Wasey suggested the ways to provide due recognition to Surjapuri language. He said protecting and providing recognition to Surjapuri language is constitutional right of the people using the language. Prof. Wasey asked the Human Chain team to provide the script of Surjapuri language along with factual data for providing essential assistance to the language from government and his department.

During his speech Prof. Wasey urged the Muslims of the country to be aware about their rights as per Indian constitution and strive to achieve the same. He said, India is a beautiful country its democratic setup consists of states and places. Interestingly almost each individual place and region has its own language. Now it’s the right time to give promote all the languages equally, which in turn would bring the countrymen closer to each other. In fact, a unique bonding can be developed among the people of country through languages, added Prof. Wasey.

Prof. Wasey specifically expressed his concern over the current status and future of the Urdu language. He said that Urdu must not be seen as the language of a particular religious faith i.e Muslims. Despite the negligent approach towards Urdu, the language succeeds in maintaining its importance in various sections and professions including Bollywood, the second biggest film industry of the world. Fact is that, Urdu is one of the most culturally rich languages of India and it needs proper care and attention of all. We must promote the use of Urdu language in our day-to-day routine, schools, offices and public places, said Prof. Wasey.
