“There are tough challenges ahead of us. The people have bestowed faith on us and now we need to fulfill their hopes and aspirations. We have to do it tactfully being nice to the NDA government. We have to be good to everybody for the interest of the state,” Ajmal told the AIUDF supporters and MLAs who were gathered in a city hotel for a special dinner on the occasion. He also hoped the BJP will work for the development for the region and for the minority as well.

AIUDF who has contested for the second time in the Lok Sabha polls since its debut in 2005 increased its tally to three from one seat. Party chief and billionaire perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal retained his Dhubri seat and his fellow leaders added two more at Barpeta and Karimganj. Both the Barpeta and Karimganj seat which were dominated by the Congress since independence won by Badruddin’s brother Sirajuddin Ajmal and Radheshyam Biswas respectively with a comfortable margin.

He also said that people this time have more expectations from his party. “We have more responsibilities on our shoulders and we have to perform all these carefully. We thank all the grass root workers, MLAs and others who have worked hard to bring good result for us,” Ajmal said.

Sirajuddin Ajmal said that it is an opportunity for the party to serve the downtrodden people of the state. Radheshyam Biswas who won from Karimganj thanked his fellow party men for motivating him to fight the battle and emerge victorious.

“As always we will continue to work for the downtrodden of the society which include the Muslims, Tea tribe community and others as well,” he said.
