New Delhi/Hyderabad: Raising the issue of encounter killing of five under trial terror accused Muslim youths in the custody of Telanagana police in the Parliament, E Ahamed, national president of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Member of Parliament from Malappuram, on Tuesday demanded a reply on the matter from the state government.

The IUML president also pressed for an independent inquiry in the encounter incident.

The encounter issue was raised during zero hour when ‘matters of urgent public importance’ are taken up by speaker Sumitra Mahajan. IUML president at the outset told the speaker that the issue he is raising is a state matter. “It is the house of the people, when sections of people have been put into difficulties, their rights have been vitiated and taken away, I will have to make a representation here,” he said.

Demanding a reply from the government on the issue, Ahmad said, “It is shocking what happened in the state of Telanagana and Andhra Pradesh, where extra judicial killings took place. (Referring to Telanagna encounter) They might be accused in some case but it doesn’t give right to Government to kill them in police custody.”

“These people were being taken to the court to stand trial, and they were shot in cold blood and this has happened in independent India. It is shameful that it has happened in the newly formed state of Telangana,” Ahamed said addressing the chair.

IUML president also pressed for an independent inquiry in the encounter incident. “People are demanding judicial enquiry or at least CBI inquiry. It is a shameful act in democratic India; they (police) think they can do anything to person from minority community.”

Ending his emotional address, Ahmed said, “Members of minority community are suffering, so it’s my right to raise this point and demand an answer from the government.”

Replying to E Ahamed’s address, Union Home minister Rajnath Singh said, “We have asked for a report from the state government, whenever we will get their reply we will provide the report to the Hon’ble member or else we will table the report in the Parliament.”

Interestingly Hyderabad MP and MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is vocal in Parliament, on many issues concerning Muslims nationally has reserved to raise his voice on the brutal incident of his own constituency. Currently, he is busy campaigning for Aurangabad municipal polls in Maharashtra.
