Kozhikode: Amidst outcries to save the thousands of Rohingya Muslims, who are struggling to survive owing to the religious persecution and massacre in Myanmar, the Kozhikode based Markazu Saqafathi Sunniyya, is showing a way by extending an helping hand to them.
Taking note of the pathetic plight of the Rohingya refugees at Mewat, Haryana the Markaz Relief and Charitable Foundation of India (MRCFI) has launched a charity scheme. The scheme envisages uplifting of the refugees who are left to suffer in slums without potable water and electricity.
At the first phase, roof sheets were distributed to the families as their roofs were taken away by a strong wind few days back. Besides, clothes and foot-wears were also delivered to 100 families in the camp.
Rohingya Youth Union of India secretary Salim Mohammed said that they were in dire need for the financial assistance in various camps including that in Nizamudheen, Jammu, Noida, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
According to him, the refugees have to pay a huge sum of money to continue their stay in the camps to the camp owners. MRCFI functionaries said that relief activities including Eid relief and Iftar parties were conducted in previous years in the camps by the foundation with the leadership of All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary and Markaz general secretary Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar.
MRCFI Delhi zonal manager Siddique Kannur, Markaz students Mohammed Rifae, Mohammed Nafi, Mohammed Swalih and Mohammed Jami led the activities.
The relief activities are initiated with the financial cooperation of Dubai based coffee shop group Filli Cafe.
