Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University has instituted an enquiry committee to probe possible discrepancies in the admission tests for MBBS/BDS.

While processing the results of Entrance Examination for MBBS/BDS (2015-16), the Office of the Controller of Examination found ‘unusually large number’ of candidates from a single centre clearing the test, raising eyebrows.

The issue was soon brought to the notice of the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah. Accordingly, the Vice Chancellor called a special meeting of the Executive Council on Saturday, which constituted a three member committee to conduct a preliminary enquiry into the matter under the Chairmanship of Prof. S. N. Pathan, Representative of University Court in the Executive Council and former Vice Chancellor, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM) Nagpur University.

The other two members of the Committee are Prof. E. Hasnain, Chief Rector’s Nominee in the Executive Council and former Vice Chancellor, University of Hyderabad and Mr. Midhatullah Khan Sherwani, Visitor’s Nominee in the Executive Council and former Civil Servant.

The University will take a concrete decision only after the report of this preliminary inquiry, said Dr. Rahat Abrar, Public Relations Officer of the Aligarh Muslim University.

on Sunday Lt. Gen. Shah appreciated the vigilant role of the Controller of Examination’s office of the University in analyzing the results of AMU’s MBBS/BDS entrance examinations carefully and identifying the “unusual” large number of successful candidates belonging to a particular test centre. He said that it was possible that hi-tech computer applications might have been used for cheating at this centre.

The Vice Chancellor observed that the use of “hi-tech means of communication” for cheating purposes in examinations cannot be checked completely. He referred to a similar case of misuse of internet based means of communication for cheating in All India Pre-Medical Test-2015

Meanwhile, a petition has been filed in the Apex Court and the Vice Chancellor made it clear that the University would wait for a possible judgment of the Supreme Court of India on May 27, when it takes up the above case for hearing, before taking a final decision in this matter.
