Nagpur : In the wake of increasingly changing political conditions in the country, the state unit of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has said that life for Dalits, Adivasis and minority communities has become difficult each day.
The party expressed concerns over rising communalism in the state and plans to strengthen their party in Maharashtra. It is also curiously eying the municipal elections to be held in 2017.
During a meeting here on Sunday, Sadique Qureshi, President, SDPI state unit, alleged that since the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, life is becoming difficult for Dalits, Adivasis and minority communities in the country.
The meeting was attended by party members from Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra.
“Steps need to be initiated to stop the ongoing atrocities on Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians and stern steps need to be taken against its perpetrators,” Qureshi said.
“The Valmiki community is being financially and socially exploited after BJP came to power in Maharashtra, which is a serious matter,” said Jitendra Ghodeswar, SDPI’s state working committee member. The party shall take concrete steps to resolve the issues of the community, he added.
Speaking with TwoCircles.net, Aslam Syed, Secretary, SDPI-Pune unit, said the meeting would give a new direction to SDPI in the state. He also added, “There is a dire need that Dalits, Adivasis and minority communities unit and raise collective voices for their cause.”
