The MoU was signed between DHIU vice chancellor Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi and UNISSA Rector Dr Norarfan Bin Haji Zainal. The former handed over a copy of MoU to the latter at a function, held at UNISSA on September 23.

Nadwi visited UNISSA after attending the International Conference on Islam in the Malay World.

Touted to be the first of its kind in the country, the agreement is expected to bring developments in education, academic, research and training domains. Nadwi’s office on Saturday told Twocircles that the new move would open an array of opportunities for DHIU students. “The two universities will soon exchange students in order to create a new environment of Islamic education and transmit local Islamic culture and civilisation,” the office said.

DHIU follows a combination of formal education and modern Islamic knowledge along with traditional Islamic subjects.

“The agreement will help DIHU spread its wings in South East Asian countries,” it said.

A member of Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) and League of Islamic Universities, DHIU has ties with International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Al-Azhar University, Cairo, University of Ez-Zitouna, Tunis, Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University.

Started in 1986, the university is running 24 under graduate colleges across Kerala in addition to two in Karnataka and one in Mumbai. Besides, DHIU has added four off campuses, one in each of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam, to its credit.
