Malappuram: Kamarunnisa Anvar, state president of IUML’s women outfit Vanitha League, landed her party in trouble after she inaugurated BJP’s fund collection campaign on Friday. The leader also contributed Rs 2,000 to BJP’s fund at the function, held at her residence at Tirur on Thursday. Kamarunnisa also hailed BJP saying it’s a party that is steadily growing and contributing for the growth of the state and the country.

After the video of the function and her statement went viral, angry party workers demanded action. To add to this, CPI(M) also started campaigns against the party questioning the party’s sincerity in fighting against fascism and communal politics of BJP. Following the outrage, P K Kunhalikutty, M K Muneer and M C Mayin Haji offered action against Kamarunnisa. Muneer said his party was fighting against communal agenda of BJP and rejected the statement saying it was not acceptable.

However, BJP Tirur constituency president Pradeep Kumar said the fundraising campaign lent the party activists confidence to strengthen the party’s activities in the area.

The hours long political drama came to an end after IUML’s state general secretary KPA Majeed addressed media persons at Panakkad on Friday afternoon. Majeed told the media persons the party leadership had received a written apology from Kamarunnisa and party president Panakkad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal accepted the letter.

In her written apology, Kamarunnisa said, “The news is misleading” and added that she didn’t think it would turn a big news. “I deeply regret in party’s damage due to the issue and will not repeat such things,” the apology letter said.

Kamarunnisa had also criticised the party leadership in 2016 for not fielding any woman candidate in the Assembly election.
