Raipur : Dozens of activists of Chhattisgarh’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday took to the streets here to protest the remarks of a Congress leader against party president Nitin Gadkari.

The protests came a day after Congress general secretary B.K. Hariprasad called Gadkari a “joker” and “nalayak” (incapable) here while talking to media persons here. Hariprasad’s comments came in reply to Gadkari’s statement against the Congress and its president Sonia Gandhi Wednesday.

Dozens of BJP workers, mainly belonging to its youth wing – Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) – took out a rally and burnt effigy of Hariprasad. They also sought an immediate apology from him for his remarks against Gadkari.

In a statement, BJP state president Ramsevak Paikra said Hariprasad “tried to pollute the political atmosphere in the state by making highly objectionable and condemnable statements” against their party president. He, however, termed Gadkari’s remark against Congress and its president “a total fact”.
