New Delhi : Buoyed by the takeover of the 4,000 megawatt (MW) Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Madhya Pradesh, Anil Ambani, chairman of Reliance Energy, Tuesday said “it is a challenge as Sasan will showcase our capabilities in creating best-of-class infrastrucure.”
Ambani, who was formally handed over the UMPP here by Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde at a function at the Hotel Imperial here, said his company of which Reliance Power Limited (RPL) is an associate was “already committed to investing over Rs 60,000 crore (Rs 600 billion) in the next few years for creating new generation capacities in the country.”
He said the takeover of Sasan has given a “huge impetus” to his company’s plans and this project which is the largest domestic coal based power project in the country at a single location “will revolutionise tariffs and set new benchmarks of efficiency and competitiveness in power generation.”
