New Delhi : Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi Tejender Khanna Thursday appointed a committee under chief vigilance officer (CVO) of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to probe the allotments of plots to slum dwellers under rehabilitation schemes, which were allegedly sold by Ashok Malhotra.
“To combat the problem of resale and ensure allotment of plots to the genuine slum dwellers, an enquiry by a committee under the chief vigilance officer of the DDA has been ordered by the LG,” a statement issued by the DDA said here.
“The committee will make a survey of all the plots allotted by the DDA which are lying vacant and unutilised. The enquiry will be completed within two months and will be totally pointed to establish genuineness and retention of the plots by original allottees,” the statement added. I
The matter came to light after the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) conducted raids at Malhotra’s residence in north Delhi last week and recovered at least 50 luxury cars and incriminating documents about 5,000 plots allegedly sold by him.
Malhotra had been accused of allegedly siphoning off millions of rupees in association with five DDA officials and a private contractor by selling plots meant for allocation to displaced slum-dwellers.
The scam reportedly took place between 2000 and 2002.
Malhotra was arrested Monday from outside a private news channel in Noida, on the outskirts of the national capital,
