Carrying colourful banners, bands, decorated floats, and both the American and Indian flags, the event will allow the Indian American community living in Rockland County, New York, to share their traditional culture with the local population.

“The number of guests to this festival, as well as the number of sponsors for the exhibits and floats, has increased,” said Sankaran Krishnan, a spokesman for the event’s main organiser, the India Cultural Society of Rockland.

Last year, more than 2,000 people came out for the parade, the online edition of the Journal News reported.

The main attraction of the India Day Parade is the cultural programme.

“Kids will be performing traditional Indian dances to Indian music,” said Krishnan. “They’ve been practicing for weeks and months for this programme.”

Other attraction will include Indian food corners, Indian garments, henna tattoos and exhibitions depicting the different aspects of Indian culture.
