Bangla council of advisers approves draft to amend six city corporation ordinances

Dhaka, Bangladesh : The Council of Advisers Saturday approved a draft to amend six city corporation ordinances keeping provisions for constituting a panel of mayors and fixing remuneration for the commissioners.

The approval was given at the regular meeting of the Council of Advisers with Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair, at his office here.

Under the new amendment, a three-member panel of mayors will be constituted from the commissioners to act as mayor in absence of the mayor. One female commissioner will be included in the panel as its member.

The council also approved the draft of Pesticides (Amendment) Ordinance-2007 to make it time befitting as well as preventing misuse of pesticides.

It also held threadbare discussion on the distribution of relief materials among the flood-hit people across the country and their rehabilitation.

The meeting was informed that Taka 32 crore has been allocated for the flood victims from the Chief Adviser’s Relief and Welfare Fund for house building purposes.

The sum will be distributed through local administration after assessing actual damage or losses caused by the devastating flood. Each family will get Taka 10,000 from in case of completely damaged house while Taka 5,000 for partial damage.

Besides, the council also held discussion on the country’s latest food situation including stock, supply and procurement.

Advisers of the caretaker government attended the meeting. Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim and concerned secretaries were present.
