No Schmeichel in goal for England

London : Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel will not play for England, according to his father Peter Schmeichel, who made a name playing for city rivals Manchester United not so long ago.

The Danish-born Kasper Schmeichel has impressed for City and let in only his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, but the goalkeeper’s famous father Peter has ruled out the possibility of his son turning out for England, according to reports appears in British newspapers here Monday.

The 20-year-old Kasper has played for Denmark’s under 21 team and his father insists this is where his future lies, despite rumours suggesting Kasper would be eligible to represent England at the international level.

“Kasper is Danish,” Peter Schmeichel told the media when asked about the possibility of his son switching nationality.

“He has absolutely no chance of playing for England and the discussion should stop now.

“England is for English people, Kasper was born Danish, all his family is Danish and there is nothing that can make him English.

“If you ask him he says ‘I’m Danish and I play for Denmark’.”
