Madrid : The condition of Sevilla left-back Antonio Puerta – who suffered a dramatic heart attack in Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing of Getafe – is improving.
Sevilla president José Maria del Nido told the media Sunday night that Puerta had undergone “a slight improvement”, though his condition remains “very serious”.
Puerta, 22, is still on a life support machine in the intensive care unit of Seville’s Virgen del Rocio hospital.
Del Nido revealed that Puerta – who made his international debut for Spain last season – had fainted during a friendly match a year ago in Badajoz, but the club’s medical team had not discovered any serious health problem afterwards.
The club president and most of the squad spent all day at the hospital Sunday.
Messages of support for Puerta and his family have come in from many Spanish players, coaches and club presidents.
