Tehran : Iran Wednesday confirmed the release of members of an Iranian ministry delegation following a short detainment in Baghdad by US troops, the website of the news network Press TV reported.
Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Kazemi-Qomi, said that the US troops handed over the delegation members to the Iraqi prime minister’s office but gave no further details on why the Iranians were arrested.
The delegation members, who were supposed to sign an energy agreement with their Iraqi counterparts, were arrested in Baghdad’s Sheraton hotel and transferred in four vehicles to an unknown venue, Iran’s state news agency IRNA had reported.
