Bhutto, currently in Peshawar, a northwest city of Pakistan and capital of the NWFP province, to launch her election campaign told a news conference Sunday that “if Pakistan has no control in the tribal areas then tomorrow foreign forces can come there.”
She said economic development was crucial to defusing pro-Taliban insurgency in the tribal areas. “We will use the military in tribal areas, but we disagree that a military operation is the only solution to the problem.

“The people of tribal areas are our own people. We want to bring them into modern age by giving them progress and prosperity.” She urged people to forsake militancy and support Pakistan Peoples Party.

Bhutto warned against allowing insurgency to spread. “Whatever is happening in Swat and tribal areas today, that can come to Islamabad tomorrow. And will the world look on as spectators.”
