Italy to partner Indian design summit

New Delhi : Indians will get a glimpse of masterpieces of Italian design at Design Summit 2007 to be held in Bangalore during Dec 12-13.

About 100 objects from the permanent collection of La Triennale di Milano, premier museum for design in Italy, will be showcased at the summit.

The design summit is being co-organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Institute of Design.

Italy will be the partner country of the seventh edition of the design extravaganza. It will be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.

Announcing the partnership at a CII press conference, Counsellor Nicolo’ Tassoni Estense, head of commercial and economic office, Embassy of Italy, said: “We are proud to partner CII in this flagship event for design in India.”

“Italy is recognised as the world leader in design in all its various declinations, from fashion to industrial design, from lifestyle to urban design. We are aware of the India’s great creativity and its emerging talent in design and we are committed to explore all possible avenues of cooperation in this sector.”

“By exhibiting 100 objects of Italian design from the permanent collection of La Triennale di Milano, we want to give a glimpse of 50 years of Italian excellence in the field of design. We believe this will be a source of inspiration for the young designers attending the summit,” Estense added.

Apart from the exhibition, an Indo-Italian workshop entitled “Design, Lifestyle & the City: managing modernity and heritage” has also being organised. Speakers from Italy’s some of the most prestigious institutions will speak during he workshop.

The workshop will be aimed at exchange of experiences in the field of architecture and management of urban spaces between participants of both countries.
