“The Congress has always fought against terrorism and it will continue to do so. Terrorism can be fought with social justice and equality,” she said in this industrial town of Kutch district that borders Pakistan.

She added that terrorism and communalism are two sides of the same coin and Congress stalwarts like former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and her late husband Rajiv Gandhi had all fought against terrorism.

Gandhi exhorted the people of Kutch to vote the Narendra Modi government out, as it had not kept up its promises.

The crowd had come from all parts of Kutch to listen to the Congress leader who has had well-attended rallies in other regions of the state ahead of the Dec 11 and Dec 16 polls.

Gandhi said the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was misleading people on the issue of projects sanctioned by the central government for the region.

“You should ask the state government how it has spent the money received from the centre,” she said.

Gandhi urged people to ask the state government why the Narmada waters had not reached Kutch.

She regretted that the BJP government in the state had discriminated against some sections of society in the distribution of relief material when the region was hit by a devastating cyclone in 1998 and an earthquake in 2001.
