Kolkata : Kishwar Jahan, mother of graphics designer Rizwanur Rahman who died here mysteriously Sep 21, has demanded a polygraph test on her daughter-in-law Priyanka Todi after she blamed Kishwar’s elder son for circumstances leading to Rizwanur’s death.
Breaking her silence for the first time since Rizwanur’s death three months back, Priyanka Saturday told a television channel: “If Rukbanur (brother-in-law) and Pappu (husband’s relative) had not been involved, things would not have ended in such a tragedy.”
Reacting to her daughter-in-law’s statements, a “pained” Kishwar said: “I fail to understand how Priyanka can utter such a lie. I think she should be subjected to a polygraph test to ascertain the veracity of her statements. If she has the courage, she should make such statements in front of me.”
She said Priyanka was now trying to save her family and her father Ashok Todi by putting the blame on her in-laws.
Kishwar said Rizwanur was under tremendous pressure from the police and feared he would be implicated in a false case. “I don’t understand how Priyanka said there was no pressure from the police on Rizwanur,” said Kishwar.
The body of Rizwanur, 30, was found Sep 21 with his head smashed, barely a month after his marriage to Priyanka Todi, daughter of industrialist Ashok Todi, owner of multi-million rupees Lux Cozi group.
“My family has already been shattered. Why is Priyanka trying to break it into more pieces?” Rizwanur’s mother asked.
In an interview to a local television channel Priyanka said: “Rizwanur was not close to his brother. They had some fundamental differences, which I don’t want to go into. But after the marriage, Rukbanur was always with us and so we trusted him blindly.”
Priyanka alleged that Rukbanur had even tried to force her husband to sign the divorce papers. “I learnt that on Sep 19, Pappu took money from my uncle to make Rizwanur sign divorce papers. And on the same night, Rukbanur had turned against Rizwanur and tried to force him to sign the divorce papers,” she said.
“I don’t think Priyanka is saying all this on her own. She is being pressurised by her family to make such statements before the media,” Rukbanur said.
